Scholarships, Fellowships, and More

We are committed to making your graduate degree as affordable as possible. For this reason, we offer many institutional scholarships to help offset the cost of tuition, and all degree-seeking students are considered for a scholarship at Emmanuel based on your admissions application.

Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan offers Honors and Institutional Scholarships. The Honors Scholarships are the most competitive scholarships awarded and require a separate scholarship application. The Institutional Scholarships do not require an additional application, except for the Pacific Northwest and the Tom & Debbie Jones Stadia Church Leadership Scholarship. Please note that institutional scholarships may not be stacked on top of one another, with the exception of the Church Match Scholarship. More information about all our scholarships is listed below.

Emmanuel also offers several opportunities for our residential students. The Ministry Resource Center offers a generously paid Ministry Fellows program and a short-term internship called A Taste of Ministry. Lastly, the dean’s office offers select students the opportunity to work with professors directly in our Graduate Teaching Assistant program. Information is listed below.

MINISTRY RESOURCE CENTER FELLOWSHIPS

Ministry Fellows Program (MDiv or MTS)

The Ministry Fellows Program is a paid ministry fellowship for full-time, residential, second-year or higher seminary students offered through the Lilly Endowment’s Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative and facilitated by the Ministry Resource Center. This program pairs accomplished MDiv or MTS students with healthy local churches, where they can serve in a variety of ministerial capacities during the time they are enrolled in seminary. Each awarded fellow will have the opportunity to receive up to $10,000 for a 9-month fellowship that runs from the fall to spring semester.

This program responds to the need for seminary graduates to be more prepared for positions of leadership within churches and other ministries, and it also addresses student financial burdens. Emmanuel is committed to developing students for ministry and supporting the local church. We are grateful for all our wonderful church partners in East TN!

The deadline to apply is in March for the following Fall each year. More information about the program and the fellowship positions is available on the Ministry Resource Center Page.

A Taste of Ministry (MDiv or MTS)

A Taste of Ministry is a short-term internship designed to link local churches with students discerning their ministry calling. The goal of the program is to learn how interning in congregational ministry can better provide opportunities for mutual learning that deepen an understanding of faith and how God works through the church.

A currently enrolled Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan student or Milligan ministry student will join a local church’s staff for five weeks to skillfully serve the congregation and gain valuable ministry experience. This service could include assisting in the Sunday morning worship service, music ministry, and pastoral care opportunities. The student will receive $500 for serving an average of 5 hours a week, for 5 weeks. Evaluations will be offered before and after the program to both the student and church leader. More information about the program is available on the Ministry Resource Center Page.

GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Emmanuel also offers current students the opportunity to work directly with our faculty as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. This is a part-time position that requires 150 hours of work per semester or roughly 10 hours a week. Students will be paid $1,500 per semester, which can be paid directly to the student or applied to their student account. Students assist professors in several tasks, which may include grading, research, and teaching, among other tasks. Additionally, the Writing Center and the Chapel have GTA opportunities. These positions are competitive, and applications are due each spring for the following school year.
