How Do I Apply?

You can apply for the Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship online by clicking the APPLY NOW button. Applicants must complete the following as a part of the application process:

  • Complete the Application for Admission to Emmanuel Christian Seminary. If you have not yet applied for admission, you can do so here.
  • Complete the Walker Scholarship Application.
  • Provide Three Recommendations. If you are applying for admission while simultaneously applying for this scholarship, please submit three recommendation requests on your admissions application. If you have already applied for admission, please send your third reference the link above.
  • Write an essay on the topic indicated on the Scholarship Application. Upload your essay at the bottom of the online application for the Walker Scholarship.
  • Make sure that all of your required materials arrive at Emmanuel prior to the Walker Scholarship application deadline.

Scholarship Information

What is the Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship?

The Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding candidate in the pool of scholarship applicants in the Master of Arts in Religion program who intend to continue on for a PhD after graduation. This scholarship is named for Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker, two very influential people in the creation of Emmanuel Christian Seminary and the continuation of her programs. The scholarship recognizes candidates who show evidence of having the potential to make a significant impact in the world for Christ through the area of academia.

Who may apply?

Any person applying for enrollment into the Master of Arts in Religion program at Emmanuel Christian Seminary may apply. The scholarship is awarded in April for students beginning in the following fall of each academic year.

What is the value of the Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship?

The Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship covers $300 per credit hour for up to $17,100 over the course of the student’s 57 credit hour degree program.

What are the requirements for maintaining the scholarship?

Recipients should be degree-seeking candidates, enrolled full-time (9 hrs/semester), and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 throughout their time at Emmanuel Christian Seminary in order to keep their scholarship.

How are the recipients selected?

The Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship Committee selects the recipients. Their evaluation of the applicants is limited to the documents within the scholarship application. The committee consists of Emmanuel graduates and faculty.

When are the recipients announced?

Recipients will be announced on April 1 via a phone call from the Admissions Office. Those not receiving the Dean E. and Dorothy Keister Walker Scholarship remain eligible for other scholarships.

When is the application deadline?

Please have all parts of the application to the Admissions Office at Emmanuel Christian Seminary by no later than March 1, 2018.
