How do I apply?

Applicants must complete the following as a part of the application process:

  • Complete the Application for Admission to Emmanuel Christian Seminary. If you have not yet applied for admission, you can do so here.
  • Complete the Barton W. Stone Application.
  • Provide Three Recommendations. If you are applying for admission while simultaneously applying for this scholarship, please submit three recommendation requests on your admissions application. If you have already applied for admission, please send your third reference the link above.
  • Write an essay on the topic indicated on the Barton W. Stone Application. Upload your essay at the bottom of the online application for the Barton W. Stone Scholarship.
  • Make sure that all of your required materials arrive at Emmanuel prior to the BWS application deadline.


Scholarship Information

What is the Barton W. Stone Scholarship?

The Barton W. Stone scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding ministerial candidates in the pool of scholarship applicants in the Master of Arts in Christian Ministries program. These scholarships are named for Barton W. Stone, one of the founders of the 19th Century Reformation, which is often referred to as the Stone-Campbell Movement. The scholarship recognizes candidates who show evidence of having the potential to make a significant impact in the world for Christ.

Who may apply?

Any person applying for enrollment into the Master of Arts in Christian Ministries program at Emmanuel Christian Seminary may apply. The scholarship is awarded in the fall to two new students in the cohort starting in January of each year.

What is the value of the Barton W. Stone Scholarship?

The Barton W. Stone Scholarship covers $300 per credit hour for up to $14,000 over the course of the student’s 48 credit hour degree program.

What are the requirements for maintaining the scholarship?

Recipients should be degree-seeking candidates, enrolled continuously, and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout their time at Emmanuel Christian Seminary in order to keep their scholarship.

How are the recipients selected?

The Barton W. Stone Scholarship Committee select the recipients. Their evaluation of the applicants is limited to the documents within the scholarship application. The committee consists of area ministers, Emmanuel graduates, and seminary faculty.

When are the recipients announced?

Barton W. Stone Scholarship Recipients will be notified by November 17, 2017. Those not receiving the Barton W. Stone Scholarship remain eligible for other institutional scholarships.

When is the application deadline?

Please have all parts of the application to the Admissions Office at Emmanuel Christian Seminary by no later than October 26, 2018.
